Monoprints in the Style of Wolf Kahn

Please join Mitchell•Giddings Fine Arts on Sunday and Monday, October 11-12 at Studio 7 for a printmaking workshop with Lisa Mackie, Monoprints in the Style of Wolf Kahn.

The style that was developed with Wolf in the early 1980’s specified using water-soluble crayons and ink, primarily from Speedball and Caran D’Arche inks. He initially used scumble and blending techniques to create the impressive tones that you see in his oil paintings.

A range of plates with different material will be supplied so that participants can see how the material interacts with different surfaces. A demonstration will be shown using a steel aquatinted plate that Wolf decided was the best procedure for achieving his printmaking vision.

In the second session participants can focus on the process utilizing the same plate, and then reactivate ghost images creating amazing second pulls.

Lisa Mackie worked with Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason starting in 1989 at Kathy Caraccio’s second floor walkup on the NYC Bowery. Kahn and Mason both wanted to explore printmaking techniques that coupled with their natural art practice.

This specific workshop focuses on the various art practices that Wolf employed in over 20 years of printmaking experiences with Lisa Mackie.
