This scholarship honors the legacy of basketmaker and teacher Jackie Abrams as the founder, visionary, and mentor for North Country Studio Workshops. Jackie founded NCSW as a non-profit arts education organization in 1993 to offer advanced-level workshops for professional and non-professional artists through an intensive, collaborative experience once every two years in Northern New England. Almost 30 years later, we are proud to be continuing her vision today.

In the spirit of North Country’s founding mother and its longstanding mission - Inspiring the creativity and challenging the skill of accomplished craftspeople and artists - the scholarship recipient will be a studio artist who has chosen to make their living through art/craft and/or teaching. This working artist will be someone needing financial assistance in order to participate in a NCSW workshop. This will give them the opportunity to expand skills and ideas.

“This (the Jackie Abrams Legacy Scholarship) does stir my heart and soul. In large part, I think, it is because of who I am. Teaching, sharing, learning.... that is what NCSW is about. It is also what I am about.” - Jackie Abrams, September 2021
