Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is pleased to present GROUP EXHIBIT 2016, a diverse selection of work created in a variety of media by current and new gallery artists.
This show opens with an artists reception Thursday, February 11, 7pm, and continues through April 17. An Artist Forum is scheduled for Saturday, February 27 at 5pm.
MGFA opened one and a half years ago with seven represented artists. GROUP EXHIBIT 2016, includes more than 20 artists from Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New York will be featured, including first-time exhibitors Will Finkel, K. William LeQuier, Scott Nelson, Susan Osgood, Michele Ratte’, Donald Saaf, and Margaret Shipman.
Through an alchemist’s magic, Will Finkel transforms functional clay and stoneware into lustrous objects of fine art. Bill LeQuier layers, carves and sandblasts glass into unique, intricate, flowing shapes. Scott Nelson offers a unique view of our planet in meticulously crafted, colored illustrations suggesting a surreal topography. Susan Osgood creates broad, spacious color fields into which she adds delicate abstract marks and a map - like calligraphy. Michele Ratte’ has enjoyed success as a printmaker and textile artist, inventing and patenting a method of permanently gilding onto fabric. Donald Saaf explores colorful, dreamlike worlds inhabited by stylized characters at once familiar and curious. Margaret Shipman’s paintings remind us of Odilon Redon’s flower pastels, hinting at a mysterious undefined spiritual narrative.
Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts features innovative works by midcareer and established artists in a variety of media. MGFA is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11-5 pm.
